Riley’s story

Janet’s Story

  • Hi, I’m Monique, and I was really worried about one of my colleagues. I didn’t know how to ask her about domestic violence. So, I rang 1800Respect. They were able to talk me through what I should and shouldn’t do. Then, I brought in some DV resources to work, and asked her sensitively about the situation. She was able to get the help she needed to be safe.

  • Hi, I’m Riley, and I’m queer. An ex started harassing me last year, and I didn’t know what to do. I got some support from the WDVCAS - Women and Domestic Court Advocacy Service. I was really worried no one would listen to me because I’m queer, and my perpetrator wasn’t a man. The support I got was awesome. They had a gender neutral bathroom, and even a rainbow sticker on my file! I was able to sit in the safe room at court, and get legal and practical advice and support. I don’t know what I would’ve done without them.
