What we do

Child Protection Counselling Services (CPCS) accept referrals for children/young people and their families/carers where there has been violence, abuse and/or neglect, and where there is a perceived need for a trauma-specific service to contribute to their safety, welfare and wellbeing. Our services include:

  • Individual counselling for parent(s) and / or carer(s) around their caregiving role to a child or young person;

  • Individual counselling for children and young people when this is safe and helpful;

  • Recognising and valuing culture and language

  • Family counselling;

  • Parenting education and support such as understanding the impact of trauma on child development, communicating with your child etc.

Services/support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island clients and communities, Services/ support for Culturally And Linguistically Diverse, Multicultural clients and communities, Services/support for people with Disability, Services/support for LGBTIQA+ (people of diverse sexualities and genders), Services/support for Refugee and/or Migrant clients and communities, Advocacy, Counselling, Domestic and/or family violence Services/support, Family Services/support, Parenting Programs, Trauma Informed Counselling

Referral from NSW Govt Agencies ie Dept Communities and Justice, Dept Education, Community Mental Health, Referral from DCJ, Referral from Out of Home Care Organisations

Who can access our service?

Children, young people and their families can be referred to us by:

  • Department of Communities and Justice

  • Joint Child Protection Response Program

  • Agencies responsible for children who are in Out of Home Care

  • Some HNE Health Services that work with children and families

Inclusion for First Nations people

For Aboriginal families we will commit to responding in a culturally safe and effective way. This can include working together with Aboriginal health workers and services. Our service is part of the NSW Health Close the Gap strategy and the Aboriginal Action Plans for our district. These aim to build and strengthen partnerships with Aboriginal clinicians, services and organisations through the building of trust and reciprocal relationships.

Inclusion for clients with diverse sexuality and gender

We work in partnership with other services to ensure our services is safe for gender diverse clients and clients with diverse sexualities.

Inclusion for multicultural clients

For persons from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse backgrounds we will seek to ensure appropriate care is provided through seeking multicultural health support and language interpreter services as required.

Inclusion for people with disability

CPCS aims to work with all children and families referred from a place of respect, curiosity and appropriate care. We work in partnership with other services to ensure our services is safe for clients with a disability.
